Using WordPress with your Web Hosting Account

By In Web Hosting On June 7, 2012

WordPress Web HostingWordPress is a powerful content management system (CMS) that is widely implemented around the world wide web. Nearly 25% of all new websites are WordPress. While some might think of WordPress as a blogging software, it can also be used for much more. WordPress is a very effective tool for building full scale websites with eCommerce capabilities and is often an intelligent choice for users looking to build their own website. The true beauty about WordPress, is that it is extremely simple to use and nearly anyone can build their own website using it. WordPress websites are flexible and adaptable in nearly any way, including the design. Your website can easily be redesigned by using so called “themes”. You can also add powerful new features to your website by installing “plugins”, which expand the functionality of your website.

WordPress can be hosted for free on a variety of websites, but even more importantly, it can be hosted independently on a user’s own web hosting account. Essentially, a WordPress website is made up of one database and a bunch of PHP and JavaScript files. Keep in mind, that WordPress will need a hosting account that will support MySQL databases.  But don’t worry, nearly all web hosting companies support this.

Practically all modern web hosting companies are compatible for hosting a WordPress website or blog. Of course, some web hosts are slightly better than others. Other top web hosting companies that go great with WordPress are HostGator, InMotion, and Hub.

Installing a WordPress website on your hosting account is a relatively easy task. It may seem kind of daunting at first, especially if you’ve never done it before. Essentially there are two primary methods for installing a WordPress website on your web hosting server. The first method, but not the easiest, is to directly download the WordPress installation files from wordpress.org, and copy them to your web hosting server. This is relatively easy, but you will need to set up a database and configure your username and password manually, which is a bit inconvenient. The best way to install a WordPress website is by using your web hosting account’s automatic install script. Most of the top web hosting companies use a prebuilt script that allows you to easy setup and install your WordPress website or blog without having to do any of the nitty-gritty work.
